Do babies need sunglasses?

My DD is almost 12 months. Now sunnier days are on the horizon (hurrah!) should she be wearing sunglasses when out and about? I felt bad as we went out for a walk today and I was wearing sunglasses (needed them as it was really bright!) but she wasn’t.

If babies do need them, can anyone recommend any good brands?

Perhaps just a hat with a good brim?

Baby bandz are good, they're like swimming goggles so more difficult to take off but where possible it's advised to shield little ones from the sun with hats/shades as they can be more sensitive to sun light/UV rays.

Thanks for the replies. Today was quite cold but very bright. So DD had a knitted hat on (as opposed to a sunhat with a brim) but no sunglasses. It just felt wrong that I was wearing glasses but she was left with no protection!

I can’t imagine a 12 month old keeping sunglasses on; I’d get a hat that shades their eyes and a parasol for a pram

I did buy sunglasses for DD when she was about 15 m as she suffers from the same thing as me, in that we both sneeze repeatedly when we get dazzled by the sun! Hers are from a French ski shop though so not a lot of help - they have soft straight arms that kind of grip her head so they don’t fall off easily.

My 14 month old wears his Babiators quite happily, or failing that a cap with a peak

My optician friend says it's incredibly important. I didn't used to think it was.

We now use Jublo based on her recommendation

Today made me realize that if I needed them, why wasn’t my baby wearing them too? I will check out Jublo, thanks.

Mine have always loved them and keep them on

I thought the same last summer when my daughter was a similar age, bought some including a strap to keep them on her head but it didn’t work. She just kept removing them. And this is a child who had a lot of hair early on so wore hairband a and similar from way before then with no bother, but sunglasses just didn’t work. Will have to rethink for this summer!
