One of my twin boys (2 years old) wakes up every night and comes into our bed, i am 16 weeks pregnant and my partner has to go to work at 6 am. I try putting my son back to bed but he has hysterics. We have tried a stair gate but it makes things worse. I need help and advice please. I have a constant headache from the stress.

Hi, my eldest girl (now 9) used to often come into our bed during the night at that age. We tried putting her back etc but it made no difference. In the end we just let her be, I put a pillow at the bottom of the bed and she’d just climb in and go to sleep at that end, and eventually she stopped coming in.

I think they just wake up and then feel more secure being with you, kind of like a night terror, just a phase. I’m sure it won’t last!

My 3yo recently went through a phase of this. I cannot sleep with him in the bed. I found what worked was saying ‘you can come in for a quick cuddle, but then you have to go back to your bed’. He would get sleepy in that minute and was ok when I carried him back. I wouldn’t linger. Just tuck him in and hotfoot it out. A few nights of that he got the message. I hope to improves for you!
