10 month old constipated

I was wondering if anyone could help me. For a few weeks now my DD has been so constipated she’s screaming while trying to go and when she does go, it’s rock hard.

She’s had 3 x 6oz bottles a day (won’t have more), she drinks probably 2-4oz of water (big improvement recently), I give her pear, prunes and she has 2 x 2.5ml of lactulose a day but she’s still really struggling.

She is teething at the moment so not sure if teething can cause constipation?

Anything else I can try?

What sort of food is she eating?
Some can cause constipation more than others

Or maybe you need a different dose of lactulose or a different medication to help

My niece used to get this - my sister would boil up prunes and give her the cooled liquid (or freeze it into lollies when it was hot).

@dementedpixie typical day would be weetabix, toast and fruit (usually give pear) at breakfast, lunch is usually pasta or spag bol or cheese toastie with yogurt or fruit and dinner is similar to lunch but usually with meat dish for mains. I avoid banana even though she loves them.

My doctor was reluctant to even give lactulose in the first place Hmm She is on gaviscon for reflux but it’s never caused her problems before and she’s been on it since she was 5 weeks old.

@Liquorishtoffee I’ll give that a try; thanks!

My DD sometimes suffered from constipation at a similar age (much better now she's a bit older). I used to give her this pear & prune puree I found a recipe for online... my goodness it works!

Be careful with the lactulose, I was giving this to my 8mo ds as he was constipated. Ended up stopping after a couple of weeks as it was making no difference, and he started going much better. When reading online the lactose in the lactulose can actually make younger children struggle to go more as they struggle breaking down the lactose! Just an idea 😊

My DD was the same - it's terrible to see them screaming in pain:( Eventually she was put onto movicol which she had until she was about 3. And it worked but I'm not sure from what age she had this. We had lactulose first and it didn't help that much. We did also visit a dietician - I seem to remember too much fibre can also cause constipation so could it be worth asking for a referral?
