Advice needed 4 month old

Hi all,

I’m hoping someone may be able to help me here with some anecdotal wisdom or ideas...my 4 month old goes down for his first nap two hours after waking up every day (sometimes in the pram, others it can just be in the house either on me or down on the sofa) - he can have anything between 45 minutes and up to nearly two hours and this doesn’t seem to depend on where he is (sometimes has had longer on the sofa, shorter in the pram and vice versa). After this nap until his next, he is so grumpy and unsettled and will really cry - the type of crying he will do when he is overtired. I will try and entertain him with the usual things, let him to play on his mat or chair, will sing rhymes or read, do chores around him with him watching...nothing stops the crying, so I assume he must still be tired to which I try to get him back to sleep by rocking him or in the sling which would be normal methods for us and it seems he’s tired but he won’t go to sleep and will continue crying. I’ve resorted to putting him in his chair watching the hey bear sensory thing on YouTube as it’s the only thing that seems to halt the crying as it almost hypnotises him. I don’t really want to rely on doing this all the time as some sort of routine as it’s hardly ideal plonking my four month old infront of the tv but does anyone have any experience of something similar and have any tips they could share?

For reference, this has been going on since he was about three months I’d say...I don’t think we’ve really hit a sleep regression in that sense as he’s just really slowly got better at sleeping rather than getting great and us going backwards. Also I once put him down for first nap at home and then took him out for a walk when he woke up...he fell back asleep about 45 minutes later after being in the pram but it completely threw napping the rest of the day.

Please help...these two hours are relentless!!
