I will have a 1 year old and newborn in July, exciting times!! What did you guys find were absolutely essential items and good parenting hacks for this scary situation??😄 I have everything from ds1 but what are the extra things I'll need for liking after 2 babies? Sling is a must of course!
TIA

I couldn't have survived it without a baby chair, you need somewhere safe for the baby to sit whilst the toddler runs wild 😂.

Highly recommended bulk purchasing Nappies and baby Wipes too as well as keeping well stocked cupboards and freezer, it's a ballache dragging two tiny kids out for a last minute dash to the shop.

Maybe a pen or travel cot to stick the older one whilst you deal with the baby or answer the door and you’re feeding/holding the baby.

A double buggy- assume you’ll have one?

Congratulations! I have a 4 month old and a 20 month old and it is amazing seeing both girls together. Top recommendations: baby sling, baby chair that you can put on the table (so out of reach of toddler), double pushchair. My top piece of advice would also be to lower your expectations, and then lower them again 😅. Before my youngest was born I was a proper neat freak, now I have come to realise my house will not be tidy for the next 10 years 🤣🤣.

White noise machine
Snoozee sleep trainer clock for the oldest!
Instead of having one enormous bag where everything you need ends up at the bottom, get two smaller initialled bags - one for each child.
If you didn’t get a bath seat for your first child, then make sure you definitely get one for your second! It means you have your hands free so that you can wash your baby, and your toddler at the same time.
Save yourself from traipsing up and down the stairs with both kids in tow and get a changing station for each floor of your house. Buy a really cheap changing mat and stash it underneath your sofa to keep things tidy.
If both of your kids are in rear-facing car seats you may want two car mirrors to keep an eye on what they’re both doing.
Thermos mug - the chances of you finishing a hot drink before it cools down to room temperature are slim to none.
Even if you already have a baby monitor, consider upgrading to a monitor that supports two cameras.
Put together a ‘busy box’ with some toys which will occupy your eldest when you’re feeding your baby.
As mentioned above, get a high chair which supports a newborn so you can put the baby in it without worrying about your eldest poking its eyes out. Useful when you need to pee.

Congratulations! Double buggy would be mine, we resisted it for a while and made do with sling and buggy but it's been so useful and if they both fall asleep you can sit down which I couldn't do with one in sling.

Just place marking to come back and read some of these great suggestions later!

Magicbabywaves · 09/03/2021 07:48

I thought of another one, I had a couple of those bouncer chairs around the house so I could stick the baby in them whilst I wiped a toddlers bum etc. I know a lot of people say slings, but I could never get on with them, so don’t do what I did and buy loads of different ones never to be used.

Magicbabywaves · 09/03/2021 07:49

Oh yes, and agree and about having changing stations around the house.

user7891011 · 09/03/2021 09:40

Thank you all so much.
@Magicbabywaves thank you I was going to sell my baby swing to get a baby bjorn bouncer but you've made me consider having both now! Great idea

Basically your house will look like a creche for a while! A delivery person once peered past me at my living room filled with a bum I, jumperoo, tent etc and asked if was a child minder!

user7891011 · 09/03/2021 14:42

@Magicbabywaves I'm okay with that as long it makes life easier!!😂
