Help! What is going on

In need of some advice

DC is 20 months, doing pretty much everything he should be etc. My issue at the moment is the fact that he has just woken up absolutely inconsolable.
This has happened before a couple of months ago and literally nothing you do will calm him down. Sometimes his eyes are closed which made me think of night terrors but he's too young to have those.
I also believe that he is cutting teeth at the moment. Could it be that?

I'm worried and any help would be appreciated right now!

Sounds like a night terror. Google them they are different to nightmares and are absolutely terrifying for parents.

Definitely sounds like a night terror. My LO went through a phase of these at about 18 months. For about three weeks he was having 2-3 a night, EVERY night and then they just stopped and he’s not had one since! We found it was much better if we didn’t really touch or talk to him very much. We’d just go in and sit by the cot and gently shhhh and pat him. It was awful listening to him scream but he wasn’t really awake or aware of what was going on. They seemed to pass much faster and with much less distress than if we picked him up.
