3yo FF
3mo RF obviously

DS hated RF and it made car journeys horrendous to the point of unsafe. We also can't fit a ERF seat, or me, in the back if my very tall DH is driving so we brought the safest FF we could afford.

DC1 will be 4 next week and is rear-facing (25kg seat)

DC2 is 6 months and obviously rear-facing, when she outgrows the infant seat we will use the 18kg seat we have (cybex Sirona, it rotates and can be used either way but we only use it rear-facing)

I will put DC1 in a forward-facing HBB when he outgrows his 25kg seat or when DC2 outgrows the 18kg seat, whichever happens first, but I don't think that will happen for a while!

If we travel by plane and hire a car at the other end, I might put DC1 in a HBB, just because it'll be a pain to take two big car seats with us, but it depends if I can find a compact/light HBB with decent safety ratings.

My 4.10 year old went from rear facing to front facing about 6 months ago when he got to tall for his seat so at about 4.3 years old.

My eldest two are over 11 so no seats.

heydoggie · 02/03/2021 10:37

2.5yrs, rear facing, in 25kg seat so plan was to stay rear facing till 4 but she's 99th weight centile so may not make it that far.

It was expensive but given you buy it once and you last for years I can't really see the argument for not buying the safest seat on the market. I was in a car crash as a child, was knocked unconscious, had headaches for years. Non-fatal accidents are really fairly common, so it was one area I wanted to just say 'right, we've done the best we can in accordance with the most up to date research right now' and then forget about it.

2 next month and has been FF since about 16 months

4 months and RF

Ostryga · 02/03/2021 10:42

4 and FF. although we very rarely use the car.

majesticallyawkward · 02/03/2021 11:03

This is interesting, my dd is now 5 and rf until about 15/16 months, ds is now 16 months and rf. we have a seat that swivels for him that we didn't have for dd but he is now at the weight limit for rf so there's a decision to make about buying another seat or ff- he's fairly chunky so the weight limit on baby items is proving to be an issue.

Harrysmummy246 · 02/03/2021 11:04

DS 4 in june. Still RF. Extended RF seats to 25kg bought as he's always been high percentile. 19kg now

Laquila · 02/03/2021 11:15

7.5yr old rearfaced til he was just about 6yrs, in a BeSafe iZi then a Britax 2WE.

5yr old rearfaced til about 4.5yrs I think (v tall) in the Britax.

Both now in HBBs - a Cybex and a Britax (and FWIW I prefer the Britax.)

Laquila · 02/03/2021 11:16

The range of RF seats on the market now compared to 6/7 years ago is fantastic! We used Winstanleys in Wigan and the In-Car Safety Centre in MK and they were both good.

Thatwentbadly · 02/03/2021 11:39

Nearly 5 yr old (in size 7 to 8 yr old clothes) is front facing. 19 month is rear facing.

Which seat do you have up to 25kg rf?
NameChange30 · 02/03/2021 12:47

I know that question was for a PP but the 25kg ERF seat we have is the Britax Max Way Plus and we're very happy with it, I suggest/recommend it a lot Grin

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 02/03/2021 12:48
  1. Forward. RF till a few months ago.
Strokethefurrywall · 02/03/2021 12:54

Mine are 9&6 and we FF from 1 year old. RF isn't a thing here.

mindutopia · 02/03/2021 13:41

Oldest one is 8 and is obviously now FF in a high back booster, but she was RF until she was 4.5 about the month before she started school. Littlest one is 3 is RF and will be probably until about the same age, just before starting school.

Bluebelltulip · 02/03/2021 13:49

DC1 RF until 4, changed to FF a few months ago.

stormelf · 02/03/2021 13:51

Dd is 3 and rear facing, hopefully will be rear facing until 6 or 7, she's very small for her age.
Ds is 14 months and rear facing

Megan2018 · 02/03/2021 13:53

17 months, rear facing. Will try to keep her rear facing until she outgrows it at 3-4 years. She’s average sized so will be a while. We have 2 different seats, both spin so can be either way.

1940s · 02/03/2021 13:54

Just over 2.5 rear facing. I'm doing it until 4 to minimise risk. 'Average' height child so I don't foresee any issues

Bookworm19 · 02/03/2021 13:58

DS just turned 4 and we turned him FF about two months ago.

DD is almost 2, still RF and will be for a long time yet.

Thanks! I'm looking around for potentially a new seat as after discovering the giant of a 1 year old is at the very limit of the recommended rf weight of the one we have 😳 still sleeps most car journeys so the rf reclined position feels like the better option.
fitzbilly · 02/03/2021 14:26

Mine are 4.5 and 2.5 and rear facing in diono car seats.

Unlikely to be switching them to ff anytime soon, not worth the risk imo.

Mishmased · 02/03/2021 15:32

@majesticallyawkward the Axkid Minikid is an extended Rearfacing until 25kg so will do most kids until age 5/6.
We used it for my 5 year old until a year ago but gave it to a friend as she had a 15 month old outgrowing their seat. Massive car seat.
