What do I do with fallen out teeth?

DD lost her first tooth. I've swapped her tooth for a coin while she's sleeping but I've realised I know don't know what to do with it.
Do I flush it down the loo? Do I keep it in a box (that feels a bit wired...).
I realise it's not a big deal and doesn't matter either way but just wondered what other mums do.

I keep them. It is weird but I never knew what to do with them either.

Pascha · 02/03/2021 06:40

Urgh. They all got chucked in the bathroom bin after the money was exchanged here.

BugsAndBeesAndBirdsAndButterfl · 02/03/2021 06:42

Why on earth would uou keep it?! What are you going to do with manky old teeth - thats a bit like keeping nail clippings...

Just wrap in a tissue and bin (where small child won't see it.)

I put them in a bag,.get them confused between kids....I have 3 different bags with random teeth in.....not sure which child's is which.....then I have a tub I'm the kitchen with a few in too.....
The bin is a great idea!

BugsAndBeesAndBirdsAndButterfl · 02/03/2021 06:43

Why bags of kids teeth? Shudder.

Unmute · 02/03/2021 06:44

Ds wanted to keep his so we wrote to the tooth fairy asking her not to take them. He's now 16 and still has them all in a matchbox on his shelf, the weirdo.

toomuchfaster · 02/03/2021 06:44

I have kept a couple as was advised in case of losses, is child drops tooth or swallows it. Ta da, Mummy found it! The rest went in the food waste as our council accept bones.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 02/03/2021 06:45

I had some jewellery made out of them, I've never worn it because it's just plain weird, just keep it in a glass box but then I have a very large collection of curios, antique occult paraphanalia and tibetan kangling trumpets so it doesn't look out of place in my house.
My son is 40 now and says the jewellery makes him shudder.

BugsAndBeesAndBirdsAndButterfl · 02/03/2021 06:48

Shehas - I would find it very freaky if my mum had done that too! I get it may fit in with yout other stuff though.

For most people think ifbyou went to your parents and they gave you your childhood teeth how would you react? I just dont get why people think they should keep them!

Mumdiva99 · 02/03/2021 06:52

@BugsAndBeesAndBirdsAndButterfl I think because you can get.keepsake boxes for the teeth (Google them, they're a thing) - I never got one....the teeth fell out before I was ready....so they went in a bag as a job to sort out in the future....before I know it 3 kods and ones a teenager and still the teeth in bags.... (well the youngest has the envelope he bought home from school with his first tooth in.)

Why would schools send teeth home delicately wrapped in tissue if we are just supposed to bin them?

kitschplease · 02/03/2021 06:53

Bin!

Schools send them home so they can be used for the tooth fairy.

pitterpatterrain · 02/03/2021 06:55

Bin them!

Haggisfish · 02/03/2021 06:56

Bin.

BugsAndBeesAndBirdsAndButterfl · 02/03/2021 06:58

Schools send them home for the tooth fairy.... some small children are ever so worried if they feel theyve lost them.

To those whove kept them - what did you think you were going to do with them/why have you got them?

QuickShadow · 02/03/2021 07:05

Google 'baby teeth jewellery' 🤮

HelloDulling · 02/03/2021 07:10

I bin them. Keeping them is revolting!

BugsAndBeesAndBirdsAndButterfl · 02/03/2021 07:11

I am NOT googling babyteeth jewellery !!!

MinesAPintOfTea · 02/03/2021 07:12

Compost bin

swiggless · 02/03/2021 07:14

@BugsAndBeesAndBirdsAndButterfl 😂😂

DonLewis · 02/03/2021 07:17

Oh, who knew you were meant to bin them? I have kept most of my kids teeth. They're in my nans country roses teacup in the big cupboard (where none of the other mugs are kept). Like a pp, I have no idea which teeth belong to which child. In fact, one of them may be mine.

musicalfrog · 02/03/2021 07:18

Um... @toomuchfaster you do know that teeth aren't bones right? 😬

EugenesAxe · 02/03/2021 07:20

They are a good source of stem cells, so scientists encourage keeping them in case your child is damaged at some later point in life.

But it's pretty low risk so throw them if you like.

WaltzingToWalsingham · 02/03/2021 07:22

My mum kept our baby teeth and presented them to us as adults, lovingly pressed into "gums" of pink plasticine Grin They looked rather gruesome. I keep my own DC's teeth and am planning to have them set into clear resin fixtures, such as light pulls and door handles, and use them in our house.

isadorapolly · 02/03/2021 07:25

I have 7 nearly 8 kids so not keeping all their teeth that would be odd Grin but I can forgive maybe keeping the first one that falls out. I think I did with my oldest then forgot with the rest Blush

ShadierThanaPalmTree · 02/03/2021 07:27

I mean, it's definitely a bit weird but I think I would be inclined to keep. I remember finding a box of hair and teeth in my mother's room when I was a teenager, I was absolutely horrified. I asked her why she was so obsessed with me 💁🏻‍♀️😂
