What do I do with fallen out teeth?

DD lost her first tooth. I've swapped her tooth for a coin while she's sleeping but I've realised I know don't know what to do with it.
Do I flush it down the loo? Do I keep it in a box (that feels a bit wired...).
I realise it's not a big deal and doesn't matter either way but just wondered what other mums do.

@DonLewis why did you keep them though? What were you going to do with them? Would you be interested if your parents had a pile of yours?

I find it really bizarre people just keeping things they have no use for. Its a bit like keeping hair from the hairdresser...

Waltzing 😯😯

I've kept all of the teeth in a little box. DD 12 is dead set on being a dentist now (unrelated!) so she can have them all and experiment on them later if she wants. I think they're quite fascinating actually!

ChameleonClara · 02/03/2021 07:32

I have followed a time-honoured tradition of not throwing them away but putting in various jars and tins in my chest of drawers and then being annoyed every time I find a random tooth.

I have some old teeth of my own still, they were fascinating to me as a child (was given them after an extraction).

Ok, they're going in the bin. Thanks!

I don't know why I kept them. I mean, every sodding time the tooth fairy is meant to come, I forget. And then I have this tooth. So I just put them somewhere eout of sight and reach. Now there's a pile of them! And I don't keep anything. In fact I'm known for being a bugger for getting rid of stuff.

The kids, with my mum, once held a kangaroo court and found me guilty of sending a toy to the charity shop that wasn't ready and I had to rebuy it on ebay!

LemonRoses · 02/03/2021 07:47

Their personal tooth fairy took them and left a note. They are needed for building sparkling white fairy queen castles.

One child discovered theirs in a tiny envelope some fifteen years later, along with all the child:tooth fairy written conversations (in fairy language). They were so happy to find their memories.

DinosaurDiana · 02/03/2021 07:48

I kept all of my kids teeth.
They think I’m weird right now, but I bet that one day they will appreciate it.

MagdasMadHouse · 02/03/2021 07:49

Wrap them in a tissue and put them in the bin.

LordOfTheOnionRings · 02/03/2021 07:55

My mum kept all my teeth 🤮🤮🤮

inappropriateraspberry · 02/03/2021 07:56

I have all mine in a little box in my jewellery box! They were all taken out by the dentist and I asked the tooth fairy if I could keep them, so i got a coin for being brave and my teeth stayed under the pillow!

musicalfrog · 02/03/2021 08:00

@EugenesAxe

They are a good source of stem cells, so scientists encourage keeping them in case your child is damaged at some later point in life.

But it's pretty low risk so throw them if you like.

Wrapping in a tissue and popping to the back of the cupboard is not a suitable way to store teeth for this purpose; they need to be lab stored.
ohwaitthatwasme · 02/03/2021 08:02

I kept them initially then one day when I was doing a spring clean I came across them in the drawer and had a bit of a WTF moment with myself and put them in the bin Grin

angelaEhen · 02/03/2021 08:07

I would definitely keep some, so far my youngest has lost probably swallowed his first 3 teeth, lucky i had he's older brothers teeth that I pretend to find on the floor for the tooth fairy

Himawarigirl · 02/03/2021 08:30

I threw the first one out but my daughter was really upset the tooth fairy hadn’t left it behind. So now she keeps them in a little box that I’ll probably find in some weird location when she is grown up and left home. I had no desire to keep them myself.

FamilyOfAliens · 02/03/2021 08:37

@BugsAndBeesAndBirdsAndButterfl

Why on earth would uou keep it?! What are you going to do with manky old teeth - thats a bit like keeping nail clippings...

Just wrap in a tissue and bin (where small child won't see it.)

There was nothing manky or old about my children’s baby teeth. What an odd thing to say.

We were living in Germany when my two lost lots of baby teeth so we bought them each one of these to store them in Smile

I would keep some.... I remember as a child my sister losing a tooth down the bathroom sink, she was devastated until my dad "found it in the pipe downstairs" (basically got out a previous lost tooth from their pot in their drawer and gave it to her to put under her pillow) life saver!

sleepyhead · 02/03/2021 11:15

I've got a coin purse full of them. It's a bit ick, but somehow it feels wrong to throw them out! My mum's still got a couple of mine..

heydoggie · 02/03/2021 11:16

I'm a bit torn between, possible source of stem cells in the future when medical advances mean it could help in treatment vs possible source of stem cells in the future when its all gone dystopian and people could use it to clone my child to create robot warriors.

Thatwentbadly · 02/03/2021 11:49

If you are my MIL you offer them to your adult child’s wife.

TheFuriousFuggler · 02/03/2021 11:54

You don't need one of these!

BugsAndBeesAndBirdsAndButterfl · 02/03/2021 12:00

I am shocked at those who won't thrown them out or even worse give them to children's partners. Just why?! Why wouldn't you throw them out, presumably you throw out toenail clippings, hair from hair cuts etc..

BugsAndBeesAndBirdsAndButterfl · 02/03/2021 12:01

@TheFuriousFuggler that is just plain weird. Has anyone truly been pleased to have been handed their old teeth as a childhood memory...shudder

toomuchfaster · 02/03/2021 12:06

@musicalfrog yes, I know they are enamel but it's better that than landfill surely?

TheFuriousFuggler · 02/03/2021 12:07

I am considered by many to be the epitome of weird and creepy, but even I find those boxes disturbing. There are hundreds of them if you google.

My daughter thinks I am odd for having a lock from her first haircut in a bag.

Fugglers on the other hand..... Grin
