Longer naps

I have a 6 month old LO who will not nap for longer than 30 minutes 🤦🏼‍♀️ I know he’s still tired & would fall back asleep if I cuddled him in but as soon as I try to put him back down he wakes up! I’ve tried just leaving him when he first wakes up to see if he’ll settle back over but he ends up proper awake & playing & talking to himself in his cot. Does anyone have any advice on how to get him to take longer naps without taking the second half of them on me?

I think it’s just a time thing. My DD didn’t start napping for longer than 30 minutes until she was 7 months old. I did start doing ‘crib hour’ though, if she woke at 30 mins I’d leave her in her cot for another 30 mins (as long as she wasn’t crying) and I think that helped.

Thanks for your reply! He’s still tired which is how I know he needs a longer nap, he’ll lie with me & sleep for 2 hours in the afternoon, but when he’s down himself in his crib 30mins on the dot is all he’ll go down for 🤦🏼‍♀️ I do tend to just leave him in there for a while to chill & see if he’ll go back down as long as he’s happy enough

My only just 7 month old is the same but in the last week he has done a few random longer naps (although he's asleep on me now after waking 30 minutes into his morning nap). Yesterday afternoon he did 1.5hr nap, it was amazing and I managed to loads done, he woke up smiling. I just hope he'll continue.

Mine started doing longer naps about 8/9 months. To be honest we gave up with the cot from about 3 months - 8 months, would just let her sleep on us/pushchair/car sling. However we tried again about 8 months because she wasn't sleeping so well on the move - she seemed to get distracted. This was also around when she dropped to two naps. We didn't do anything in particular - she usually does 1hr - 1 hr 20 mins now.
