Child Negligence

Desperately need opinions on this. So my brother and SIL have a 1yr old boy. SIL and nephew were up her father's yesterday and nephew was messing with the washing machine. APPARENTLY he had a tantrum when he was told no and SIL father then proceeded to put nephew in the washing machine (door left open). I have received the picture today from my Mum and I am horrified (as was she). She has spoken to my brother (who wasn't there at the time due to being in work) and its been completely turned back on my Mum. Apparently she's questioning their parenting. No harm came to my nephew or will do and it's not encouraging unsafe activity in any way. My opinion is they are bad parents for doing/allowing such thing and thinking they're not putting the child are risk when they are or that they're not encouraging behaviour which the child could do in the future when he's a older and next time it could be a very different story. I'm absolutely bewildered by this situation and the fact my Mum is being having a mouthful off both my brother and SIL for showing her concerns for the child's safety.

It’s not something I would do / have done but they were there supervising. A 1 year old won’t remember.
Don’t think it amounts to negligence. I get that your mum received a photo but think she’s overstepped questioning their parenting especially if she’s framed it as neglect. She should have ignored it or say she didn’t find that sort of thing funny. End of
