Friend has an only child due to start school September. She seems to struggle to entertain and parent/discipline her. Child has no reported issues at preschool or with childminder afaik. Slight delay in potty training and using a cup when she started but now caught up and school ready so friend says. So in light of that the issues she keeps having seem more to do my friends behaviours and reaponses. I would like to help her as she is asking for advice but I don't know what to tell her. I'm a mum (my children are older now,) but I don't want to impose my way as the only/best way. And I'm cautious of a dependency developing. What websites or books would you recommend I signpost to? I'm hoping school may offer some parenting classes for the age group when school starts as I seem to remember them running them when mine went. Very general age group advice. Tia

Ask HV for referral to parenting classes. Most councils offer the Souhill course for free online. There is also the book how to talk so children listen but I suspect she needs something more basic.
