Toddler hitting and tantrums

My 20 month old seems to be hitting that terrible two’s early. The tantrums are full on and if he doesn’t get his own way he will headbutt me or kick or hit or pull my hair out. I try to avoid situations that I know will be an issue but with hitting, kicking ect it’s straight on the naughty step. Today I ended up with a bleeding lip after being head butt in the face.

I’m feeling so drained from it emotionally as everything is causing outbursts at the moment. We do lots of garden play and lots of fun activities every day and he sleeps well for his nap and bedtime, I’m just not sure what else I can do. Any advice? I’m a first time mom so I’m still learning.

Be consistent and don’t give up, you’ll get there eventually. Naughty step sounds like a reasonable punishment for hitting at that age, but it will only work if he realises exactly why he’s been put there every time, and as long as you (and anybody else around) give him zero attention for the whole time he’s there.

Thank you for the advice, I will make sure I’m consistent xx
