Robux money wasting

Recently I have allowed my 8 yo daughter to get Roblox after much pestering over the years. She seemed to be really enjoying it but now she has asked for a lot of robux I feel as though we are wasting money but don't want to ban her as she gets so much pleasure out if it. What should I do?

I am new to Mumsnet so have accidentally put this in pets. 🤦‍♀️Is there any chance I can still get help with my issue?

@Suechildmind Report your thread to Mumsnet (just select 'report' from the top of your post) and ask them to move it to a different topic - probably 'parenting' would be the best one for advice on this.

My 3 all use roblox and have never spent a penny, it really isn't necessary to have fun.

Who’s money is it?

Is she asking you for money or is it her pocket money?

If it’s her pocket money, let her waste it. She will soon come to sense when she realises she actually has nothing to show for this money

It's my money

I have told her that she needs to spend her own money so she asked if she could get a job to cover the costs what shall I do to tell her that child employment is not allowed?

My daughter is obsessed with Roblox, I'm not keen tbh.

I've recently ordered a Rooster debit card for her. It's made for kids and you get an app on your phone where I can set chores lor tasks for her to to, to earn her pocket money.

This is working out really well so far, she's keen to do the chores, mostly, and she can spend the money on Robux if she wants. I'm not buying her any more out of my pocket!

Her brother has the Go Henry card and app which I like also, but I prefer Rooster for younger DC as you can set smaller amounts for tiny chores and because it uses more images so it's a but friendlier for younger DC.

When we start going out again I'll encourage her to spend her money in shops so she realises there's more to spend money on than Robux! But for now, they're stuck at home so I figure she might as well get to spend her own money on it if she wants to.

With both RoosterMoney and GoHenry the kids get an app they can put on their device and they can set goals for saving, and get used to putting a bit aside.

I think they're both great.

fastwigglylines · 21/02/2021 15:50

Although I do agree you don't actually need to spend money on Roblox to enjoy it!

fastwigglylines · 21/02/2021 15:52

Do any of her friends play Roblox by the way? My daughter has started playing with a group of school friends and zooming each other while they do. I much prefer this to get just staring at the screen as at least she's getting social interaction with her real life friends, whom she really misses.

Suechildmind · 21/02/2021 15:54

I didnt know you could play with friends that could be helpful I will do and tell her.thank you all for your time and help

You need to start giving her pocket money so she can use that instead

My two who are almost 6 and 8, have had pocket money for a year now

They have decided not to spend it on things like roblux but have put it towards things they really wanted

Suechildmind · 21/02/2021 16:02

Okay I will look into that 😉
