When will I get my energy back?

I’m 4 months and a week postpartum. I had a 22 hour labour and an emergency c-section.

Physically, I recovered from the operation really well - I was able to walk around normally within a couple of weeks and the scar healed beautifully. However I’m wondering how long it took others who’ve had a c-section to get their energy back?

I get tired so easily and it’s really frustrating! Obviously some of that is new mum lack of sleep but this feels like more. Not quite full on fatigue so I don’t think it’s iron or thyroid - it just feels like I haven’t gotten back to pre baby levels of energy and I’m wondering how long that will take?

My son is 13 months and it’s only in the last six weeks I’ve started to really get my energy back and feel a “normal” level of tired, as opposed to this kind of bone-deep fatigue I suffered with for months.

Are you breastfeeding? For me it was very draining. Getting my energy back has coincided with going down to just one feed per day.

Are you getting enough sleep?

When DS started sleeping through the night at 13mo. Then I got pregnant when he was 14mo. DD is now 15m and I'm still waiting, but hopefully soon! Might be worth getting some blood tests to rule things out though.

I’m not breastfeeding but definitely not getting enough sleep. I guess a bit more than most though as we’re able to alternate being on night feeds!
Most nights I’m on I see every hour on the clock though as he unsettles so often.

Ask GP to test your blood. I was low on iron and as soon as I was on iron tablets I noticeably had more energy.
Also could be low vitamin D, blood test should test for that amounts other things.

Hmm, it could just be that you're not getting as much sleep as you need. But if you feel it starts approaching fatigue or seems more than you'd expect after a rough night, I agree with PP you should get the GP to do a blood test.
