Am I over feeding my child

My baby is 18 days old and was premature so is currently 5lb 7oz. She dropped weight when she was born so we went into transitional care and we were put on a 3 hourly routine of feeding. We have continued to do this once we got home in order to get her to birth weight but she will take 90ml per feed which means over the course of the day she is getting way more ml than she should have. She is back up to birth weight so we are trying to just feed on demand but we don’t think we really know her cues so she is still feeding every 3 hours. But she sicks up a lot of her feed (probably 80% of feeds have some spit up) so we are pretty sure she is suffering with reflux! But yeah do you think we are over feeding her?

She sounds very small still so no I don't think you are overfeeding her. You could try feeding a smaller amount at a shorter interval so there is less to throw up at a time

I d try treating the reflux as it could be that causing them to throw up. My baby's over the recommended amount for his weight but doing fine

My baby takes over the recommended ml for his age and weight and my midwife wasn't concerned because he doesn't bring it back up.

I agree with PP, try smaller feeds at regular intervals and if she's still sick. If she is you may be giving her a little too much, if not it's probably fine Smile

All my babies brought up a bit (sometimes a lot!) after most feeds. I think that is quite normal. As baby is quite small I wouldn’t worry about over feeding,

Try giving 60ml every 2 hours instead. 3 hours is textbook, but mine didn't go that long between feeds til about 5 months!

Thanks everyone! As a first time mum I’m just worrying about everything! Deffs going to try dropping the amount and feed more regularly!

Due to the throwing up, look up paced feeding if you haven’t already, but my baby was born 5lbs3, and drank well over the recommended amount for her age. She’s now a 75th percentile 18 month old (height and weight) and very healthy and robust!
