Toilet training age?

Hi Everyone!

I have a 2.5 year old boy and we are being encouraged to toilet train him by his nursery. I will definitely get to it but he is going through some change right now with childcare so I don't want to do too much. What ages did you all toilet train your kids and is 2.5 years old late to still be in nappies?

He always goes somewhere quiet to do his business so he is very aware and I think he will be ready soon. He has a mini toilet-potty at home that he sometimes sits on but he isn't overly keen. I just didn't want too much change in his life right now until he's settled with his new childminder. I'm going to take a week off work and crack out the toilet training.

I made my husband do it last Easter in lockdown 1 when he was furloughed. Our son was 2.5. It took a while but its not like there was much else to do. It was hot and he lived naked in the garden.

Before you take a week of work talk to his childminder as s/he can help him get use to wanting to sit on a potty plus if there are slightly older children and he's interested in them going to the potty/toilet s/he will tell you.

Mine apparently showed interest from 18 months so my CM thought she would start training by end of summer before she was 2. However my DD takes her time to do everything properly apart from bloody talking.

I've read a lot on Instagram about potty training from nannys etc and they all say the older the better as they pick it up easier and quicker...our little boy is 2.5yo and at the mo we have got him into a habit of having a morning wee when he wakes up and a wee before bed on his potty...our childminder said to try in the spring when it's warmer so will give it a go xxx

Thank you all for the reassurance, tips, and first hand experience. Much appreciated. I'm going to buy Oh Crap, lol.
