Walking in shoes

DS is almost 11 months and has been walking for a few weeks. He is due to start nursery as I go back to work so I got him some shoes as he will need them for outdoor play.
Did you little ones walk in their shoes straight away or did it take a while to get used to them? DS refuses to even stand in them and if I try stand him up he lifts his legs up 😂 I want to keep putting them on to encourage him to get used to them but at the same time don’t want to stop him developing his walking if he reverts to crawling everywhere.

It does take a bit for them to get used to, but it also depends on how long they have been confidently walking and the type of shoes. I think usually they recommend not putting them in any shoes until they've been walking confidently for about 6 weeks. And then ideally, they should be the really flexible 'cruiser' shoes (which is probably all you can get for an 11 month old anyway). And are you sure they fit well? It's really hard to fit shoes when they are little. It's probably hard to get them checked at the moment, but when things re-open, if you haven't, I would get someone to check the fit. Otherwise, yes, it can sometimes take some time for them to get used to them.

My DD was not impressed with shoes at first and it took quite a while for her to get used to them

I only put dd1 in shoes to walk outside, kept her barefoot inside for as long as possible. I'd also second getting the fit checked as soon as possible - I'm avoiding buying dd2 shoes until I can get her properly fitted

Mine hated them, but got used to them within a month or two. I think the summer one did better as sandals are less noticeable. I hated caging their feet, but would have hated them walking on sharp things more. I would be very surprised if your son regresses to crawling, not when there are so many fun things to reach up and grab.

Yeah if it wasn’t for nursery I wouldn’t have got him shoes yet but didn’t want him walking outside in the wet getting cold soggy feet. I only got him some little trainers as I would like to get properly fitted Clark’s/start rite for him but at the moment that obviously isn’t possible so if I am attempting to fit them my self there is no point in spending loads on properly fitted ones.
