Hello. I’m struggling to brush my LO’s teeth. I’m not sure if the brush I have is just too small, it’s the babybrush ‘my first brush’. Has anyone got any recommendations for something which might make life a little easier please? Or how to do it without giving my LO a tooth brushing aversion?!

Following for advice...I have an almost 2 year old and I find it very hard!!

In what way are you finding it difficult?

I struggle with my 18month old but that’s mainly because she clamps her teeth shut and won’t let me brush properly. Not sure if you mean the same thing?

I’ve got the baby brush sonic toothbrush now which helps as you don’t have to do the actual brushing motion as much.

Let them chew first then its mummy/daddy/granny or whoever's turn. 'Let me brush the naughty monkeys out of your teeth' gets quite giggly. Let them brush your teeth (painful but promotes the turn taking thing) demonstrating wide mouth with ahhh sound and teeth together with eeee sound so it's a prompt for them too. Let them do the toothpaste and make sure they can see in a mirror (swimming mirrors you can stick to the wall are good). Best of all....elmo teeth brushing song on youtube. Its magic.

Did you consider the silicone ones that you put on your finger?
Give him a toothbrush to play with, let him brush his teeth, and then use the finger one to do it properly yourself.

My DS is 10 months and I really struggle with this as well - he doesn’t understand and just clamps his mouth shut. The only thing I can do is give him the brush with toothpaste on and he will then chew on it for ages like a teething toy. It’s not perfect but at least it’s coming into contact with his teeth?!

Thank you, lots of good suggestions. I’ve ordered some silicone finger brushes to have a go and we’ll watch some videos. I think because I’ve been getting stressed I’ve forgotten to try to make it fun 😬
