Baby sleep issues

9 weeks old and naps during the day are practically non existent. If he does sleep in the house it’s for 20/30 minutes. Then he wakes up.

At night he’s like a different baby and wakes to feed, is fed, cuddled and goes back down.

I’ve tried all the ‘usual’ advice - did anyone have anything more unusual that worked? He’s tired and to be honest so am I!

At that age my DD would only nap on me or in the pram. It’s rough but it does get better. When she was 4 months I started putting her down in her cot and done pick up put down - she’d still only sleep for 30 minutes, but it was 30 minutes free time for me. Something to do with sleep cycles, they don’t know how to connect them so always wake after 30-45 minutes. It’s frustrating but completely normal.

Short naps are pretty normal at that age. Sleep cycles are short so that is probably all he needs to feel refreshed. You could try resettling if you think he needs longer. Going for a long walk in the buggy or carrying in a sling works for some.

Going outside somewhere always worked better with mine... walk in pram or sling?

During the day my 9 week old only naps in his sling or in his pram after an hours walk. So that’s what we do every day! It’s monotonous but at least he gets 2-3 hour naps, sometimes longer. Sometimes he will surprise me by randomly falling asleep on his own on the bed or the sofa, but it’s not something I can then force him to do the next day, it’s a total fluke. When he’s about 12 weeks I’m gonna start sleep training him to nap in his crib. He sleeps in there all night long, just won’t go in there during the day. It’s pretty common to be honest.

I had the exact same thing. I eventually discovered that my baby wasn’t one who would just sleep anywhere. He needed to be fed on a rocking chair, white noise/fan on and blinds shut x
