Jojo Maman Bebe - quality issues

sesquipedalia · 15/02/2021 09:39

My DM bought DD2 a lovely bright waterproof coat and fleece lined waterproof dungarees for her birthday in September. She has worn them regularly since. In the past week I've discovered that the seam attaching the hood to the coat has gone leaving a big hole and holes have appeared on the inside on both legs. Neither are now waterproof!

Am I unreasonable to expect these items to last a full season? Has anyone else found Jojo stuff to be poorer quality than you'd expect for the price?

Yep! Had a maternity top that split straight across the back... not even on a seam. And my babies grows have holes in. Neither were cheap

Thatwentbadly · 15/02/2021 09:50

What have they said?

sesquipedalia · 15/02/2021 09:51

teaplease interesting, not just me then!

Yes, I’ve had some terrible quality clothes from them and don’t shop there anymore.

In the interests of being fair though, I’ve also had some really robust clothes that three children later are still going strong and in great condition.

sesquipedalia · 15/02/2021 09:53

thatwentbadly - they haven't commented on the fault at all. Currently they're telling me that I can't post the items back to discuss a refund as they can only be returned in store. During lockdown that just isn't feasible as I live an hour's drive from the shop. Impasse.

I'd consider one item failing a blip, but when the coat went as well it made me think twice about their overall quality.

Yes. Fading is awful on some of their cotton printed clothes after just one wash. I’ve stopped buying from them, except coats. I haven’t had an issues with those myself and generally found them generously sized and decent quality. Avoid their wellies like the plague too, they split.

sesquipedalia · 15/02/2021 10:00

BlueTimes I've really liked their kids clothes and my mum loves shopping there for DD, but I don't want to waste her money if this is going to keep happening!

Yes! I got 3 maternity tops that all have faded after just 2 months and the material also seems very rough even though we have soft water.
I bought loads of sleepsuits for DD before she was born, but won't be buying any more. The quality is just not good enough for the price

sesquipedalia · 15/02/2021 10:10

Definitely not just me then! Their customer service has been poor too. V slow to reply and even if I was closer to a store, how could I return the item if the shops are all shut?

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 15/02/2021 10:12

I had the same argument with Next who advised me to return something in the middle of the lockdown. I persisted and eventually they send me a replacement and refunded me and told me to keep the original item!! So keep on at them. They’re being unreasonable in the circumstances. Point out that non essential travel is against gov restrictions and you’re not willing to be fined. I assume their shops are closed anyway??

sesquipedalia · 15/02/2021 10:14

Exactly. Seems ridiculous and feels like they are trying to wriggle out if their obligations. When companies behave like this it really puts me off buying from them in the future!

I’ve bought a huge amount of children’s clothes from Next in the last year and have only had two faulty items which they immediately refunded for without any quibble at all. I’ll stay their customer now as they’ve made it so hassle free - unlike Jojo.

I could have got over Jojo’s clothes being badly made (missing button holes, leaking wellies, tear in dress to name a few) but it’s their shockingly bad customer service that stopped me being a customer (although those working in the stores have always been polite).

That’s rubbish customer service.
ballsdeep · 15/02/2021 12:24

I used to buy loads from JoJo for my boots but the quality has significatnyl decreased. I bought two pairs of leggibgs, exactly the same size and there were inches difference between them . Clothes have shrunk, unraveled and coays have broken. The clothes are so costly and o don't mind buying them if they last, but they really don't.

ballsdeep · 15/02/2021 12:29

Oh yes and let's not even mention the wellies!!!! Three pairs I sent back with a split in the same place!

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 15/02/2021 12:45

@BlueTimes when was that though and was it in store? I just kept getting frustrating repeat emails clearly lifted from templates and outsourced abroad. I suspect Next customer service staff are impacted by the pandemic and some has been outsourced? Finally got through to one person who understood the issue and she was very good and sorted it out. Prior to that, it was like being in a frustrating echo chamber.

Sweetpotatoaddict · 15/02/2021 12:54

Jojo stuff has always been of dubious quality. I’ve returned more faulty goods to them than other companies. Although never with any issue. It’s usually the stitching that is rotten.
Some of their appliqué stuff is fab and totally worth the money. Their screen printed fabrics are awful and fade badly. I still shop there but watch what I buy, cause it’s the only place you can get nice basics in bold bright colours.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 15/02/2021 13:49

Ive always thought JoJo to be poor quality. Seems to have a big following though.

itallworkedouthorribly · 15/02/2021 13:50

That's strange. I have been very happy with them.

itallworkedouthorribly · 15/02/2021 13:51

Frugis wellies are rubbish.

Paris2019 · 15/02/2021 17:01

Yes! I splashed out on some nice sleepsuits for my newborn (£18 each) and they were the ones that got holes in straight away, while the asda George ones fared way better and cost a fraction of the price!
