Hi All

My boy turns 1 next week and we have been co-sleeping from 10pm til 7am for the last six months. He goes down in his cot at 7 and then comes in with us at 10.

He’s my first so I followed the safe sleep guides religiously, empty cot, sleeping bag etc

In our bed however, he LOVES a pillow. I always position him where he needs to be but he’ll work himself up by the time we wake up and he’ll have his head on a pillow like me Confused

We’ve tried gentle sleep training a few times but he screams bloody murder until he comes in with us; then he’s out for the count. He used to want to be close to me but now he just sprawls out and goes for the pillow, and he’s booted his dad out of bed doing so.

I know the guides say no pillows for a while yet, but I’m curious what you did with your babies as this seems to now be a comfort thing rather than him wanting to actually sleep with me!

I want to get him back into his bed as we are doing up his room at the moment and plan to move him in there over the coming weeks.

Pilloes are ok from age 1. Make it a fairly flat one rather than a big fluffy one

@dementedpixie thanks! So I read 12 months - 18 months. Wondering if anyone introduced a duvet at age one too? Just thinking of replicating our bed (but baby version) to try and tempt him back in.

Duvet is perfectly fine!!!

The idea with keeping the cot empty is because babies can't physically move things away from their face. Also, cushioned "protections" around the cot are super dangerous because the baby can roll towards it but may still not have the strength in her arms to pull herself away. It's actually best if they bang their head in the wood Grin how hard can they themselves bang their little head with their little bodies? Besides crying a little bit in your arms is better than suffocating Confused

At 1 year old is perfectly fine to have a duvet, toys, pillows, wtv! (As long as your child doesn't have physical/ mental difficulties)

Maximum tog for in a cot would be 4.5tog. You get cot sized duvets/quilts

Thanks! I’ll have a look :)
