How to keep 8 year olds playing?

My ds is 8 and is not really interested in any of his toys anymore. All he wants to do is play games on his iPad or Nintendo. We limit this and he really struggles with what to do if he can't do this and doesn't seem interested in anything else. He has loads of Lego knex etc but will only pick these up as a last resort.

Is this just inevitable? I thought he would be playing with toys for much longer.

Depends on personality I think. One of mine is really only happy outdoors or on a screen. The other will do toys/art/reading if screens are firmly limited.

Yeah mine mainly reads. Or wrestles with his brother.
