Nappy

Hi Mums (and Dads / grandparents / carers!)

I was wondering if you could help me. My 2 year old daughter has starting to seem quite uncomfortable in her nappies. She will sit or lie with her legs over one another and rigid and straining her leg muscles. She has been doing this for a while and just won't stop. She will also push against any straps that are between her legs. I pick her up and try and distract her, but as soon as she is on her own she starts doing it again. Its almost like its a comfort or a nice sensation for her to do.
I was wondering if you had any experience of this or advise on how to stop her. I try taking her nappy off her and have considered potty training her but she is just a touch too young and cries for her nappy to go back on.
I will of course contact Dr if it persists. I have checked her bottom and it all seems fine to me, I just wonder if she is very sensitive down there!?
Thank you in advance

She is not too young to potty train. At this age I had one in the bathroom and they would sit on it while waiting for the bath to run. I got the odd wee, no problem if we didn’t.
Also, try pull ups instead of nappies. It’s a step closer to knickers.

And when you buy knickers for her make a big fuss of it, let her choose which ones she wants and go on about what a big, grown up girl she is.

Have you tried potty-training it yet? mine kept excreting until I showed it that the toilet was the correct place to defecate.

Potty training would help I think

Potty training sounds a good idea, kids develop at different ages. One of my children was potty trained by their 2nd birthday but one of my others wasn’t until just after their 3rd birthday x

This is a really normal part of development(although seems awkward for adults involved). She’s found that it feels nice so will keep doing it. It’s best just to ignore and distract and not bring any negative attention to it

Ohalrightthen · 13/02/2021 18:16

Its basically masturbation - she's discovered that certain parts of her body feel good when she touches them a certain way. Very normal, ignore or distract.

A friend of mines little girl use to rub herself on peoples thighs if she was sat on their laps. Cue and awkward visit from the grandfather one day 🤣🤣 she grew out of it but definitely amused me hearing how this very formal grandad
