Does anyone else's baby just moan constantly?

My DD is almost 10 months old and god I'm struggling right now.

I love her to bits and she hardly ever cries - but honestly, she just moans and whinges constantly! If I'm not in full children's entertainer mode, playing with her and focusing fully on her, then she will just ignore her toys and make this horrible noise over and over again - it's not a cry, just a horrible grumpy whinge. If I'm playing with her or she's eating then she's fine, but it's exhausting trying to entertain her for hours on end! Especially since we can't go out at the moment because of the snow.

Is this normal baby behaviour? Is anyone else's baby the same? What's wrong with her - could she be bored? It's so hard!!

Yes! I've been moaning about this myself today 🤣. Both of mine have done it. From memory it stopped at about 12 months with my daughter, my son is almost 7 months and omg that noise is slowing killing me 🥴!

DC1 is 3 and still does it!

Oh no! Is there anything I can do to stop the moaning?

I really think she could be bored, but literally nothing holds her attention for longer than 5 minutes. Its impossible...

DS was a whinger. That grating hnnnhhhhrrrrr grizzle all. the. time.

It did get easier when he could reliably talk and walk but a decade later, he's still a bit of a whinger I'm afraid. He turns pessimism into an art form.

My friend used a firm voice "stop, I do not like that noise". Seemed to work on her son.

My 9 month old doesn’t know any other sounds other than to whinge and moan it seems 😅 the noise really gets to me.. she has to be constantly entertained and the moment you stop, the whinging starts again. 😂

Not mine because I ignored it, its essential that children learn to entertain themselves or your life will be completely miserable.
They have to learn that there are times you need to be doing other things.

completelyclueless1 · 09/02/2021 16:12

It gets better when they walk and even more so when they can talk a bit :)

LBB2020 · 09/02/2021 16:28

I think DS does it out of boredom and frustration (he’s non verbal)

bex85s · 09/02/2021 16:45

Not mine because I ignored it

Should I really just ignore her and leave her to play alone though? She is only tiny and I feel bad!

She has lots of toys but I’m genuinely worried she’s bored and not getting enough stimulation, especially as we haven’t left the house for several days due to the snow.

Yep mine is 10 months and he just started this new whiny noise when I’m not paying attention to him. I’ve been Googling all sorts of things we can do to entertain him, I’ve made baby safe slime, made little ball runs, played with ice. I’m seriously over it because he has zero attention span.

I have no suggestions I just feel your pain lol

mia2201 · 01/06/2022 22:24

Did it stop? My 7 month old makes a whining sound for around 70% of the time. It's wearing me out....

Believeitornot · 01/06/2022 22:26

My dd was like this. So I used to take her for walks and face her outwards in the pram. There were so many distractions it kept her quiet.

Now she could talk for England and loved company so I wonder if this was it 🤣
