Bath, milk, bed routine question

1stimeboymum · 04/02/2021 20:19

I've noticed a lot of people do this routine and it is what I would like to do. However my son will sleep for about 3-4 hours and then wake up and start crying for milk so there's no way I could bath him before he's had his milk. Any advice how to get around this?

I didn't do bedtime bath at that age. Did it during the day instead

I probably wouldn't bother when they're that little, but once a little older you do for example
wake from last nap
feed
play
bath time
feed
bed

Bedtime feed would be 6-7pm-ish and next feed would be 10-11pm-ish before you go to bed.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't bother at that age. He should still be with you in the evening in any event so 'bedtime' won't be until whenever you go to bed presumably. We would do bath and pjs about 6pm at that age (and not every night) but DS wouldn't actually go to bed until later. He'd spend the evening feeding / dozing / playing.

Oh when they were tiny I did morning bathtime. More relaxed, more time, etc.

I found they enjoyed bathtime on a full tummy too, as they are happy and relaxed.

Only bathed every other say at that age. Too small for a formal bedtime.

Ohalrightthen · 05/02/2021 12:03

at that age i did bath, book, boob, bed. Then when i was ready to stop feeding to sleep (six months) i switched to bath, book&boob together, bed, then eventually boob before bath. I personally think a bath and story at bedtime is a lovely end of the day routine and we did that with DD from very tiny, but I fed last thing for months and months.

Apologies for using boob as a verb. Ridiculous.

I have bathed my baby almost every evening since she was a few days old. Like OP I liked the idea of this routine. She wakes up from last nap about 5pm, has some play time then bath at 6pm, milk after then bed at 7pm. We then so dream feed at 11pm and she wakes at 3am and 6.30 am. She’s 6 months old. When she was very young we did bath, milk, dress for bed but slept in my arms on and off through the evening, sat in bouncer while we ate then 11pm feed and bed

I did it at this age. Honestly I swear by it. I think the routine has got us through some potentially disrupting times (moving house, illness). You could split the feed and give a little pre-bath, then the rest afterwards?

My LO is 18 weeks and I do exactly what minniemango said above.
Once we all got the hang of it, it worked a dream. She knows what’s coming when I do the feed at about 10pm - eyes now stay firmly shut but she obediently opens her mouth when I pick her up out of her bed - makes me laugh every time!
