Hi first time mum here and 2 weeks ago switched to formula for other reasons. My little boy who’s now 19 weeks old is taking 6 ounces every 2 hours, is this normal? I have tried upping the bottle but he ends up only drinking 6 ounces every time. I’m clueless to how much he should be having.

How much does he weigh and how much is he having in 24 hours?

Is that 2 Hrly night and day?

Bubblegum21 · 01/02/2021 08:59

He’s roughly having 42 ounces over 24 hours as he does sleep a stretch at night without a feed. Haven’t seen a health visitor for him to be weighed since November due to covid 😔 He’s not a big baby and is only just in 0-3 months clothing

Maybe he needs to catch up with some weight gain if he is small.

Have you tried the 'hungry' milk formulas?

minniemango · 01/02/2021 11:46

Hungry milk is just harder to digest, it doesn’t have extra calories. I’d speak to the HV before using hungry milks.

Stand on your bathroom scales with him, then stand on them without him. It's in kg in the red books.

Joint weight - your weight = baby's weight

So then you can plot in your red book. You can also do his length when he's on the changing mat. Put his head to the top and then Mark where his heal is the mat when you stretch out his legs ( or is a piece of tape) measure later !

I have no idea on Oz of feeds as I BF, but my baby ate really often at least every 2 hours so I don't think it's unusual. I did think the idea was they left some of the bottle, so try to make a bit more than he will take just incase.
