Constant Red bum

My nearly 2yo seems to constantly have a red bum when I collect him from his mother’s. By the time he leaves after the weekend, it’s much improved. It’s not always angry-looking when I pick him up but always red. I change him regularly, pad him dry and apply sudocrem. As of today, I’m also introducing an hour’s nappy-free time to see if that helps.

Ultimately, I’m determined to get to the bottom of this, is it normal for a 2yo boy to always have a red bum?

Some babies have more sensitive skin than others.

With DD, we change her every 3 hours, do hours of no nappy time a day, sudocream etc, but if she does a wee in her nappy and she's sitting down for more than 5 minutes (highchair, carseat etc) her bum is red for hours.

Have you asked his mum if she's noticed it? It might be that there's something she's doing to help that you could try too. As it's not angry-looking and from what you've said your son isn't in pain, it's likely to just be sensitive skin. Not much you can do about it - if he's 2 you'll be potty training soon and it should improve.
