Is it time for a duvet?

Little one is 19 months. He's up until now been more than happy in a sleeping bag. This last week it's like we are trying to murder him if we put it on. He will then fuss on our laps as he goes to sleep twisting and turning and pulling at it. When he goes to sleep and if he wakes during the night he is absolutely fine with it and doesn't pay it any attention.

He still wiggles a lot and often he will start up one end of his cot and end up the opposite way down the other end by morning. This worries me in terms of giving him a duvet to sleep with.

What do you think? When did you introduce a duvet?

Well he's heading for two years old....so at that age he's probably a bit big to be going to sleep on your lap. The problem is that it's probably not the sleeping bag that he's complaining about but bedtime...he associates the bag with bedtime and is complaining about that.

If you remove the bag, then he'll probably still fuss.

What is your current bedtime routine? Are you not just putting him down to bed? Or are you still rocking him to sleep?

@FortunesFave he falls asleep on our laps. We don't rock him to sleep but if we put him in his crib he screams and screams and sobs. He takes 5-10mins to fall asleep on our laps and then we put him down

My son started protesting about the same age. Hated the sleeping bag going on. We changed to a duvet (which he doesn't want over him 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️) and haven't looked back x

It’s usually advised to switch once they are in a bed and not a cot. I’m not planning to move DD to a bed before 2 so duvet will come after that.

We introduced one at 20 months; DD wasn’t sleeping well and we hoped it would help. I don’t think it did but she loved it and we figured she’d need to swap at some point. She wiggled a lot in her sleep and I was a bit worried about it going on her face but it was always fine

Had the exact same thing with my 18mo ! So I tried a duvet and he is going down much easier and no fighting him into the sleeping bag. He doesn’t stay under it all night though but doesn’t seem to be cold luckily. Worth a try !

I thought my daughter was going through this phase but it actually turned out it was baby grows she didn’t like as she didn’t like her feet too covered. Once we changed from baby grows to pyjamas she was happy enough with her sleeping bag.
