Two year old picking finger nails

Looking for a bit of advice. My toddler (just turned two) has recently started picking at her nails. She only does this when she's calm and relaxed - watching TV, while reading a story at bedtime, and after I've put her to bed (where she'll lie for 15/20 mins just picking at her nails before she goes to sleep). She's not doing any major damage at this point but they are very short and ragged looking. I'm also fairly sure it's not stress or anxiety, but how do I get her to stop? I've tried brushing her hand away but she just gets agitated, and I've given her various soft toys/muslins to fiddle with instead but this doesn't work either.

Does anyone have any experience? I didn't know this was A Thing, so I'm at a bit of a loss for how to handle, or whether she'll just grow out of it!

All kids are different but if it puts your mind at rest, my daughter went through a period at that age where she seemed to be biting her nails ALL the time and they were really short. I was concerned because as a kid I bit mine a lot and I was a teen before I kicked the habit completely. But it just stopped as soon as it started! I didn’t make any big deal, just occasionally said “leave your nails” or moved her hand gently but she just stopped and I hadn’t even noticed really until I looked at her fingers and saw lovely little non bitten nails.
