Baby keeps straining and crying

My baby is 4 weeks old and keeps going bright red, looking like he's straining and then starts crying briefly then back to normal. This mostly happens when he is napping in the day. I assumed it was when he was pooping but every time I change him after this happens his nappy Is just wet nothing else. But then when he does dirty nappies he doesn't strain and it's soft so he's not constipated.

Has anyone else had this? Is it normal? He can do it 4/5 times in a row! Hoping for some tips to help him?!

I’m pretty sure it’s normal and babies have to learn how to pass gas/poop. My baby stopped doing it around the 12 week mark!

My baby does this. Its usually either a poo or reflux. From what you've described with it bwing in their sleep, it sounds like it's when they're lay down so would suggest its silent reflux.

Infant dyschezia. They grow out of it!
