Can your baby pull into sitting position?

My DS is 9 months old. He can roll (though doesn’t particularly enjoy it!) and sit up unaided if I place him in the sitting position. He’s good with tummy time but not showing any signs of crawling yet.

What tends to be next for babies developmentally - will he be able to manœuvre himself into the sitting position from lying on his back or front? I’m just wondering where he’ll go from here really.

My little girl did it just before she was 9 months old, she goes from her front up onto her knees and then rocks backwards into a sitting position. It all happened really quickly, the day before she couldn't even get into her knees and the next day she was pushing herself into sitting all the time!

She had started army crawling about 8 months but didn't do the traditional crawl until after she could push back into a sit.

Mine can't but he's a lazy soul. He's recently figured out a commando crawl but has no thoughts yet on how to get from a prone position to a sitting one. Or, indeed, vice versa; gravity mostly intervenes.

Ds couldn't get himself into the sitting position until after he could crawl, as a pp said he'd back up into it from his hands and knees (he could maintain the sitting position after being placed there at 5 months). He didn't start crawling properly until just after 10 months and I think it was a few weeks after this that he began regularly sitting himself up. Before then he liked to lay on his stomach in a weird cobra position to play!

My son was nearly 11 months before he could pull himself to sit up. All my friends babies were doing it early I was so worried. But he's a bouncing 2 year old now who can do all his colours and count to 25 so there is no issues anymore 🤣
