Is my baby sleeping too long?

I know this is going to sound like a revolting humblebrag and I’m so sorry - those with babs who don’t sleep may not want to read on 😬

My baby is seven weeks old and has started sleeping through the night. I know it won’t last or be consistent but for he fairly regularly does roughly 10pm til 5am.

On those nights that he does this, is it ok for him to go that long without being fed? He wakes up hungry but he’s gaining weight well and has plenty of wet and dirty nappies. He’s exclusively breast fed.

Should I be waking him for more frequent feeds or is it ok to follow his lead on this?

Anecdotal only I'm afraid - not a health visitor or midwife! - but my DD was the same. She went above birth weight quickly and fed well and was sleeping 9.30/10 to 5am most nights by 8/9 weeks, then would generally go back down after a morning feed.
I think by that point you are ok to leave them to sleep overnight if they are putting on weight nicely and generally happy.

The only thing that might be a consideration is the fact that your boobs might take some adjusting to the sleep...!

Enjoy the snooze. :)

My baby is/was the same. I woke her to feed in the first 2 months because she was jaundice. After that I just let her sleep. She's now almost 7 months and still sleeps through the night.

As long as everything is healthy the just let baby sleep!

Enjoy your sleep. I would let baba sleep unfortunetly it was never a dilemma I had.

Oh my, don’t wake them! Over birth weight and gaining nicely-you enjoy the sleep! My one year old doesn’t do half that at a time, embrace it and follow their lead! 😊

I'd count your blessings Op and leave baby in peace in your situation. Make the most of it while you can, just in case the 4 month sleep regression spoils everything... On the other hand you might be lucky with that one too Grin

Good weight, good nappies, good feeding...I'd say enjoy your sleep!

Sway19 · 22/01/2021 21:35

It’s fine

Cakeandslippers · 22/01/2021 21:40

Yes, enjoy it. My son was doing 5-6 hour stretches at that point then the regression hit and he's been up every 45 minutes for the last 3 months 🥴. I genuinely hope your luck continues though, it's hard enough at the moment without sleep deprivation xx

Lolalovesmarmite · 22/01/2021 21:46

Please leave 😂

My 8 month old has never slept more than 2 hours straight and is currently not even managing that. I’m a wreck. I would love to be worrying that he sleeps too much!

Terracottasaur · 25/01/2021 19:38

Thank you so much everyone - I am reassured! I will enjoy it while it lasts, I’m sure the 4 month sleep regression lurks ahead...
