Car seat advice please

Baby DD is 11 months and is about to outgrow her infant carrier car seat. It's a Maxi Cosi Cabriofix and the top of her head is nearing the top of the shell. 2.5 yo DS is currently in a gb Vaya, which is a 360 rotating seat suitable up to 105cm.

I'm trying to work out which seat to get next. I'd like to continue to keep DS rear-facing for a good while yet if I can, but don't want to have to keep buying a new seat for one or the other of them every couple of years. On the other hand, I don't want to buy a seat that supposedly covers all stages but isn't particularly safe.

Does anyone more knowledgeable than me have any suggestions or recommendations for the sort of seat I should be looking for? I live near an In Car Safety Centre so can book an appointment with them too.

Im no expert like some..

How big is your 2.5yo, and how soon will he grow out of the current seat? (Track his growth in his red book). If he's big, you may need a 25kg harnessed seat at some point, in which case you might as well buy that now and give your DD the smaller harnessed seat.

Getting expert advice for your car seems a good idea. Unfortunately, smaller age gaps aren't that convenient for car seats. My gap was 20minths and we needed two toddler seats, then two HBB... Then DD1 needed a bigger HBB, which she's just outgrown so DD2 was it now (they are 9&7).

Axkid Move or Axkid Minikid will keep him rear facing up to 25kg (5-6 yrs old) so if you get it now, you’ll get plenty of use out of it. Then you can move to a high backed booster which will only cost £40 or so.

Well done for rear facing longer, great to see.

Thank you both for your help. DS is just below 50th centile for both height and weight, so a rear-facing 25kg seat should last him until DD outgrows the gb Vaya. Then she can go into the bigger harnessed seat and DS into a HBB.
