Hi everyone, I'm currently doing Access to Teacher Education at college, I started at the begining of Sept and applied for financial assistance for childcare before we started the course.
My nursery obviously needs to be paid up front month by month so my husband and I have been putting the childcare costs on our credit card (as of the begining of Nov it will total £1400). So the college had assured us that they would cover the full cost of childcare because our income is below the WTC threshold and it would be backdated, I received a letter this week from college advising me that they have run out of funds and we will get no help at all, that's nothing, nada, zero, zilch!!!!!!!!

I have written a jolly good letter of appeal but I'm panicing because if the appeal gets turned down I'm going to have to leave the course and I know there will be no way I can start over next year. Does anyone have any advice, or know of any organisations I can approach for help, the only ones I can find insist that you must be below 25 or from a disadvantaged background which I'm not we're just poor

Sorry for the long rabble, hope someone has an idea.

I'm flutterbee by the way for any oldies out there, just changed my name for a comeback!!

Ouch! They do have limited funds with a un out clause BUT they shouldn't have told you that you would receive help and then pull it- the original agreement should stand imo.

Hope yu get to finish the course- I did the Access to teaching before Uni, its a good course.

Thanks Peachy, I have cited in my appeal that I was told that they would pay for the childcare, but I will just have to wait and see what the outcome is.

Any ideas for additional funding?

Try going to the college library and looking at the "Directory of Grant Making Trusts" - there are lots of people out there with money to give you!
