First night in own bedroom

Hi just looking for a handhold really!

Just put ds to bed in his own bedroom for the first time and I'm honestly beside myself with worry 😂 I didn't really want to move him but we had started disturbing him a lot and I was getting up at 5am every morning as my partners alarm woke him up and he never went back to sleep properly! Also he'd outgrown his next to me, he is 6.5 months.

Will I wake up to the monitor? What if someone breaks in? What if there's a fire?

Brains in overdrive 😩😂

He'll be fine 🙂. I am rather jealous though, my boy is the same age but will only sleep 10-20 minutes on any surface that isn't me! Though here I am sat in his room attempting to get him down, it's futile but I'll never learn! With my older one I found it weird for a couple of nights then it was really nice, though I was up at least every 2 hours with her till 18 months, normally more so I never had a long stint away from her 😂. Good luck, try and enjoy the peace and being allowed to make a noise!

Ahhhhhh the first night DD slept in her own room i checked on her every 20 minutes and didn't sleep a wink.

Next night every half hour, also no sleep.

By the end of the first week i was listening from the doorway once an hour, and was very proud of myself.

A couple of months later DH pointed out that i hadn't gone up to check on her in the evening for a few days. I immediately went to check on her.

I found the best way to get through the crippling terror was to remind myself why we were doing it, and laugh at how OTT i was being.

DS2 is 2yrs 8m and I still worry about him - he woke up an hour later than usually today and I was sure he was dead! Meanwhile I've never been concerned about DS1

My pout being that these fears are pretty irrational, and even knowing logically that they're fine doesn't stop you having very real fears.

He will be fine. You will be fine. But let yourself feel what you're feeling, and just make sure it doesn't stop you doing what you know is right.

I'm not there yet as DS is just coming up to 4 months but he's a big lad and nearly outgrown his next to me crib already! 😫
This will mean me putting him in his cot in his nursery 😭
I have a video monitor so I know that I will spend most of the night staring at it and have the volume on loud so I won't miss anything!
I'll be more sleep deprived than I was when he was newborn! 🤣🤣

I moved DD at Christmas, she was 15.5 months. She’s been fine but I wasn’t ready before. I could fit her cotbed in my room though so space wasn’t an issue.

I couldn’t sleep the other night and went in and slept on the floor next to the cot! Soppy cow

What I found helped was keeping the volume and sensitivity of the baby monitor on high. You want you dc to sleep on their own when they are 15, so this is a good starting path to that. Best of luck

Thank you so much everyone for your replies!! Made me feel so much better that everyone else is just as crazy as me 😂 I'll update in the morning if it went well or I've been asleep on the rug next to the cot all night!

Ha! My eldest is 10 and I still do a final check in of each child before I go to bed.

When we moved pfb slept in her own room for the first time the first night. 8 months.
Me and dp stood at the door too scared to go in as we hadn't heard a peep all night!
Life changed that night!!

Well... been up since 2. Looks like he's not a fan of his own room😂 in and out for the last 2 hours putting dummy back in, rocking, milk... Any tips anyone??

Aaah do you llay white noise? If DS disturbs we turn his ollie the owl on and it usually sends him back to sleep.

Also make sure you have the lighting the same e.g if you had a nightlight or if you sleep in the pitch black
