Sleeping too much?

At 12 weeks has anyone got a baby who isn't awake for more than an hour at a time during the day? Cant work out if I should worry. Everything else seems fine

Mine were all the same, it’s completely normal.

My DS did this. I spent ages excessively googling to try to find the answer. I was really worried it was a sign there was something wrong - particularly as DD was the polar opposite.

He slowly started to spend more time awake. He's 1 now and has two 1.5 hour naps (morning and afternoon).

I'm sure your baby is fine. You've just got a sleepy one

Following! Trying to get my 12 week old into a routine of maybe 3 or 4 naps again and still doing many many short naps and no long awake times

I had a sleepy baby too, @namechangefail2020 - in the very early days it was because we were having feeding issues and very nearly ended up back in hospital. I can't see this being an issue with a 12 week old, though, especially if the baby is a normal weight, growing well and following the centile curve?

Pinkflipflop85 · 14/01/2021 14:46

At 12 weeks their awake time is still quite short. 60 to 90 minutes awake time is about it. Any longer and you hit the overtired territory!

namechangefail2020 · 14/01/2021 14:47

@RedPandaFluff that's my concern that maybe they're not eating much and I can't tell as bf. I'm not sure about the curve as we havnt been weighed since week 2. I will do it at home today then keep checking that's it's increasing. Thanks

I'm not too fussed about a routine yet just I feel like once fed and had a bit of a play they want to sleep again and I don't remember this with my first. Good to see am not the only one tho

I had the same with my first. It carried on until she started school (at 4 she'd sleep 13hrs and still want a hefty lunchtime nap 😂). I remember googling this exact thing while all my Nct friends hated me for wondering about too much sleep.

Fair warning - I paid for this BIG TIME with number 2. Try not to worry and enjoy it xxxx
