2.5 year old refusing to eat 😩

My 2yr old little boy has always been a fairly good eater eating 3 meals a day and snacks in between. However, this week the only meal he will eat is breakfast. We don't understand why he won't eat anything else I've tried everything cutting out some snacks, stop snacking after a certain time, stop giving so much to drink, taking him on walks to burn his energy but nothing seems to be working. I know he wouldn't let himself starve but I just don't understand why all of a sudden he doesn't want to eat. Did anybody else's little ones go through any similar stages at all? Thank you all x

I don't think it's unusual for kids to change to being more fussy, but that does seem quite extreme. Is he hungry?
When you say breakfast, what does he actually eat?

@beamur I don't think it's so much about him being fussy more the fact he's choosing not to eat. His fingers have been constantly in his mouth so I'm wondering is it a bit of teething and usually in the morning a bowl of cereal and some fruit x

Have you tired calpol to rule out teething? Is he even trying the food and then getting upset and spitting it out? Has anything upset his routine, or has he shown signs of being sick in other ways (like bad dirty nappies etc)

@mummabear432 the other day he put something in his mouth and spat it out almost instantly. There's been no change in his routine although I have noticed he will eat cold food fine like right now he's eating some grapes out the fridge. I haven't tried calpol as of yet so i might give him a dose half an hour before lunch and tea tomorrow and see if that changes anything. Thank you x

Is he constipated or does he have a cold? Both these things affect little ones appetite

3milygrac3 · 13/01/2021 18:31

@thatsmycupoftea nothing like that. Nothing else has changed in him apart from his eating x

Can you look in his mouth?
Cold food is more soothing if he's sore.
Check perhaps for oral thrush?

Sounds like teething or thrush rather than a food issue.
