Registering Birth

Hi all,

What are the current waiting times to register your baby's birth with your local authority?

My son is almost 6 weeks old and we applied to register him a couple of days after he was born.

We know that there are delays all the way back from March, but we're just wondering how long other parents are waiting.

We're in Leicester, by the way.

Did my 9 month old last week Hmm

Ticklemynickel · 11/01/2021 20:44

9 days. We could have done it sooner but I didn't feel up to it.

Bluejayway91 · 11/01/2021 20:50

Blimey... At least HMRC are accepting applications for CB without a birth certificate.

@Ticklemynickel Where are you based?

My DS will be just over 11 months when we finally get to register him next month...

The differences across the country is crazy, when I went online to book a slot I was able to get one that afternoon but we chose two days later. This was just before christmas, DS was a couple of weeks old.

WoolyMammoth55 · 12/01/2021 17:13

We are in Somerset. Online booking closed "until further notice". Helpline number rings for ever then cuts off.

The thing that's worrying me is that it doesn't say anywhere that the rules around 6-week limit have been officially changed? Can I ask if anyone got in trouble for missing the cut off?

AtomicSquash · 12/01/2021 20:26

Yes the 6 week limit has been lifted. The only problem I have encountered with not having him registered is I haven't been able to open a bank account for him yet. No other issues.

Charlottejade89 · 13/01/2021 11:53

No delay issues here (South wales) I made an appointment last week and have got on for Monday 18th so ds will only be 3 and half weeks old

Tucancrossing · 13/01/2021 15:19
