Thinking of taking DD for swimming lessons........

as she lurves swimming. She is 3 and i wondered if i have to go into the pool with her too?...due to me being deaf as i can lipread though.

Ds has just had a course of swimming lessons over half term and it was definitely parents out and watching by the side.

Is dd deaf? Can imagine if so they might want someone who can understand lip reading in the pool.

Oh, ds is four, but there were three year olds on the course.

no DD is hearing but its me whos deaf

so i will be just watching all the way thru in the pool and not having to do anything??

is it a basic swimming lessons? and nothing fancy, eg going thru the loop under the water

Ds has just started swimming lessons and all us parents just sit on the side and watch. The youngest in the group is about 4 though. Check with the local pool.

Lesson is very basic here. Learning to go from one side to the other with floats. Graduating to swimming independantly.

My dd, 3, goes to lessons. I just sit and watch. Lovely BUT i'm not sure i'll send her after this lot though because they seem a bit pointless. There's 12 in a class with 2 teachers. They are all 3/4 and my dd just seems to be walking across from one side to the other and never swimming. Not the teachers fault but dd is 'one of those' children who deosn't listen. Too busy chatting to the other kids so not sure it's worth the money atm as she isn't learning anything. I think dh can teach her more and it'd be cheaper. The lesson is only 1/2 hour long and £5ish per lesson.

Mine started swimming lessons at about 3 3 1/2.
You can join council run classes here for the younger ones where the instructor gets in the water with them in small groups for half an hour. You just sit on the side and watch.

At the pool where ds started it was independently at 3 , at our school pool they have to be 4 and in fulltime school. It varies.

it depends where you are. Our local lessons for 3 year olds are either tadpoles for those that lack confidence or frogs for the more confident.
They have lots of games like ring a ring roses, picking things up from the bottom etc. Swimming across the shallow end with floats etc.
The teacher will also get them to jump into the deeper end and do one to one swimming with them.

My dd has been having swimming lessons since she was 7mths, with me in the pool, we've just gone up to the next class she's 2.5 and I'm still in with her, she'll progress to a class without me in the water with her the term after she turns 3.6, but it depends which class she goes into as to how well she's swimming. I'd try and check out a couple of diffrent local pools to find out more about what they each do as they will all vary. Ours also has a waiting list of over a year for the term time lessons, but they do short courses in the holidays.
