Should I have heard from HV?

I gave birth to DS in lockdown and he's 8 months old. I've only seen the HV once since he was born, for his 8 week check which was a home visit.
Since then I haven't heard a thing. I'm a FTM and wondering if I should've heard from her again regarding updated checks for DS.
I haven't had any concerns up to this point so had no reason to reach out myself.

I briefly remember a friend of mine mentioning their DS 9 month check, should I be hearing from her soon for this?

As far as I can tell each area is doing it differently. I have a 9 month old and the last time I heard from a HV was for a weight check at 5 months. That was only because I asked for it as DS is on a 'healthy weight' pathway. Nobody has called since.

I could be wrong, but im not sure a 9 month check is a thing thats done everywhere? I thought each baby had a 12 month check (which can be done as early as 9 or 10 months)? I could be wrong about this though.

When I had my daughter in 2018 we had a hv visit at 2 weeks and 6 weeks, then again at a year.
With my newborn we had a visit at 2 weeks and are due to have zoom call at 6 weeks. I’m assuming that will then be it, until the one year check.

I had my 8 week check and was told I wouldn’t hear from them again until her 1 year check but could still contact them any time. In normal times there would be weigh in clinics that you could go to regularly so you might see them more often but if you don’t have any concerns then I wouldn’t worry about it

No you will hear between 9 months and 1 year for a health review. If you have any concerns you contact the HV otherwise you will not here from them if you are universal or no other problems.
They are busy with safeguarding and dealing with the families who need them.
Just call if you have a concern.

In our area it’s a 12 to 15 months check.

hellolittlebaby · 08/01/2021 15:04

I had my daughter in December 2019.

We had our 8 ish week check pre pandemic, just!

I didn't hear again until about 9 months. A letter inviting us for a phone call. It sounded optional so we didn't bother.

Thanks everyone! The responses were really helpful. Sounds like it'll just be the 12 month one in a few months time - can't believe I've just typed that! Goes way too quick doesn't it? Thanks

They do a check at around 1 year, I think a lot are being done by phone at the moment - they send you a questionnaire about their skills and you fill it in to get a score for their gross motor etc. I wouldn’t expect to see them before then unless there were concerns raised when your DC was a newborn. Normally you’d be able to drop into the clinic if you had any concerns, I used to take mine to be weighed once a month and they would have a quick chat to me about development while I was there. Obviously at the moment you can’t do that.

I hate to dampen your expectations, but in my area (thanks to the pandemic) they're only doing the 1 year/2 year reviews if you have concerns about your baby's development and request one. I wasn't even sent the questionnaire to complete so didn't know if there was something to be concerned about. Fortunately, Google (for once!) reassured me that DD's developing just fine.

DD is 16 months now. With the way things are going, I'm not going to hold my breath about her getting her 2 year review either. Just have to hope nursery will let me know if she has any delays.

I was promised an 8 month check by my HV to be scheduled for early January, but haven’t heard anything yet. I will probably chase them next week as I have a few concerns about my DS’s development. Having said that, the check was mentioned before this latest lockdown, so who knows what will happen now. I will be really worried if it doesn’t go ahead.

ClockSpanner · 08/01/2021 20:10

Yep don't hold your breath for a 1 year check. My DS is 14m and around when he turned 1 I just had a letter saying call us if you have any concerns. Thankfully I don't and he's not my first but I did think it was/is wrong to not even check in on the babies/parents.. It made me wonder how many children's additional needs/vulnerabilities/safeguarding are being missed with this approach.

Meepmeeep · 08/01/2021 20:24

We saw the health visitor at 4 months and she told us next time would be 8 months. Never happened due to COVID but she did a telephone appointment with us. We’ve recently had the 14 month appointment in person. Not due to see her until 28 months now. This is Scotland.

I’m so scared my DS is going to get overlooked.
