What to do on nap refusal day

DS is 11m. He's completely refused his morning nap this morning (been up since 6am). We tried for 30 minutes, mixture of in the rocking chair and together on the spare bed, and by the end of 30 minutes we were both crying and I'd shouted at him. I feel awful. We're now back downstairs and he's grumpily cruising around the lounge.

How the heck do I play out the rest of the morning? I've got a bit of a chest infection so we can't go out in the cold. He's never not had his morning nap.

Thanks.

PS. Trying to work on self settling at night. Definitely not there for naps yet.

Give up a eat all the chocolate. And biscuits. This is what I do when my 3month old battles naps. And maybe try again in 15mins.

Shove CBeebies on and sit on the sofa having a cuddle. If he's tired he'll fall asleep otherwise it won't tire him out too much for the afternoon.

I would go for a drive in the car if that is an option for you and a pram ride is not possible. Failing that could you rock to sleep in the pram indoors?

No baby ever died from skipping a nap. Take the pressure off yourself. Go play and try again in 45mins. If you can go for a drive or walk in the pram.

But seriously if you're getting frustrated just give up for a bit and try again later. It'll be ok

I’d forget it for this morning & try again after lunch.

Second the general consensus here. My 8 mo skips morning naps ever now and then. By lunchtime hes a mess but he has a good afternoon sleep and normality is resumed.

Sometimes if I sit on the sofa with him oh my lap backnto my chest and softly kiss his hair while reading my book he falls asleep and I put him in his crib :)

Try again after lunch. When they go down to one long nap after lunch it’s amazing.
