Winter garden activities for DC

Does anyone have any good (and cheap) ideas for activities, games or toys to make my garden more fun for my two pre-teen DC this winter? I just want them out there as much as possible between online learning sessions... It's a medium size but quite boring garden with a swing they like and a small climbing frame they've outgrown. They are not hugely interested in gardening. So far they've enjoyed filling the bird feeder, drawing on the walls with chalk, bubble wands, skipping ropes, football...

If they enjoy filling the bird feeder, might they like the BTO's Garden Birdwatch?

Would they paint the fence? Make a bird box with wood, hammer and tacks. Cricket mad son had a cricket ball on a string and we hung it up from climbing frame. Basket ball hoop, swing all.

Ask a tyre yard for a few old tyres (they’ll give you them for free). They get a few decking planks and allow the children to roll the tyres into position and lay the planks between them to make balancing beams.

They can try different configurations. Helps their sense of balance as well as their strength and gross motor control. It is also fantastic for problem solving and imaginative play.

Thanks for the suggestions all Football Am going to attempt making an obstacle course or balance beam type thing at the weekend, thanks for the idea Ihatecoronavirus. Also might look into getting a basketball/netball hoop or archery set. Yesterday we filled the birdbath, smashed some ice and played catch... exciting times Grin

Just popping back to remind posters that the RSPB Birdwatch is this weekend if anyone fancies doing it as a winter garden activity Smile You can register online and get the electronic pack to print at home rather than paper copies. My DC have been practising with toy binoculars Grin
