pooing in night nappy

hi everyone, im new here. so it started around mid december when my ds (7) was ill with diarrhea and was having accidents - i decided to put him in nappies as he couldnt make it to the toilet so he would just tell me if he had pooed and i would deal with it as he was very ill . but ever since then he has been pooing in his night nappies (he still isnt dry at night hasnt pooed in years) and im at wits end with that to do. when i ask him about it he gets embarrassed and tells me he didnt mean to. I have tried everything to do with his diet and have been to the docs to rule out any constipation or anything and nothing seems to be working.

i understand that he probably wont be doing this when hes 10, but he makes such a mess when he tries to clean himself that recently ive ended up changing him - and let me tell you, changing a 7 year olds full nappy every morning is not pleasant.

if anyone has been through anything similar or has any advice for me please share x

No advice but I have heard of this happen to people especially when a child has been ill. I hope someone with experience comes along with some advice for you!

update - yesterday morning, as usual he woke up and had pooed in his night nappy. not much of a shock as this has been happening almost every day but this time there was a bit of a leak as he had filled his nappy (tmi) which was a pain (this has only happened once before) but definitely shows me that i need a solution to this. what i might try doing is waking him up really early to go to the toilet as looking online this has worked for some people. will update later today/tomorrow x

yummymummy2020 no worries hun, its good to hear im not the only one who has gone through something like this. i feel like him being ill definitely had something to do with it but may of also been my fault for putting him back in nappies for it. and yeah, hopefully x

Take the nappies away and get a mattress protector instead? And get him to change himself - if he's not capable get him to get in the shower first thing instead.
