4 month sleep regression

My daughter has been waking every three hours or so this week after having a period of nearly perfect sleep (6-10 hours sleep per night without waking). I think she might be having a sleep regression.

She is EBF so I do all the feedings. The problem is, I don't think she is waking up because she is hungry, it is more for comfort and to assist her back to sleep.

My question is, if I send in my partner to comfort her instead of offering my breast, would this eventually stop her night wakings? I was thinking she might stop if she realises she won't get a boob.

I don't want to do any form of sleep training which involves leaving her to cry.

It's worth a go I guess but she might be too little for night weaning?

I don't plan to wean her completely but I didn't think she needed to be fed three hourly still? She was managing ok before as she was sleeping through. So my guess is the boob is for comfort. I suppose she could be having a growth spurt or something.

I think if it was that easy we wouldn’t call it a sleep regression...

So I dont know if this might help you. My DS sometimes starts waking for night feeds for a period, then stops again. I remember he did it at 3.5months, again at 5 months and he's doing it now at 9 months. So theres every possibility she might actually need the feeds! Sorry.

Oh dear, it's just so difficult when you think everything is getting better and then all of a sudden it gets worse again. I hate the unpredictability and the sleep deprivation and not knowing what to do about it.

Yes its so hard. Sleep for my DS definitely hasnt been a linear progression. Its VERY generally getting better though.

Yes agree with a pp that baby sleep progress is never linear!! It does get better though!!

I could have written this post. My baby boy has just turned 4 months and is exactly the same. Before his sleep regression he’d wake for a feed at 1am and 4am (sometimes only once). Now he’s waking every couple of hours.

I’ve been having a look at the time when he wakes and if it’s near to when he’d normally have a feed I’ll feed him. If not, I just pick him up and give him a cuddle and some bum pats (he loves those) and he soon goes back to sleep.

I’ve read that their sleep cycles are changing and maturing so sometimes they just need a little extra help getting back to sleep. If the cuddles and bum pats don’t work I’ll feed him and try to get him back to sleep that way.

I’ve heard this is only temporary and I haven’t seen the other side yet so not sure if it’s going to work or not but seems to be going ok so far.

Mine loves bum taps too Grin funny little creatures aren't they!

Yes let's hope that's right and it is temporary and we will be on the other side of it soon I feel like a zombie Confused
