3 month old having nightmare

As I type this my 3 month old DS has been sleeping on me for the last couple of hours. Half way through his nap he started crying and getting quite upset. And just a moment ago he started sobbing, was sick and cried more. All the while he's asleep and still asleep now.
A 3 month old can't have nightmares yet can they? Or even a sleep terror? I had them when I was little but I was around 5 years old at the time.
I just cuddled him closer until he settled. He's ok just really threw me! Poor little man! 😢

My daughter is nearly 14mo but has done this every now and then since she was born. I can't imagine they're nightmares as such, he may just have unsettled suddenly and gotten upset but not actually woken up. It's heartbreaking but I don't think it's out of the ordinary.

I think it's quite common. My DS is 6 months and does this from time to time. More upsetting for us than them I'd imagine considering they seem to fall back asleep quite peacefully (at least DS does). Maybe he has a sore belly or wind that's making him uncomfortable if he was sick.

My DS has been doing this since day 1! Not as frequent anymore (7 months) but did it quite often at one point. A stroke to the head and putting his ollie the owl on usually helped

I have Ollie the owl! A lot of people have slated it but I find he works well too 🥰
Was just curious about it but reassuring to know that it's not just my DS 👍🏻

My DD does exactly this too OP, quite disconcerting the first time it happened! 13weeks almost, 3 months old too.
