10 month old baby - diarrhea

Hi all. I am really worried about my baby. She has had diarrhea for 13 days now (4-5 poos a day..with mucus). She has no fever or vomiting and is acting completely normal with an appetite. The doctor thought it was Gastro and said it would be gone within a week but it is still here. We have sent off a stool sample but we do not get the results for another 8 days. She is only eating a very basic diet and we have been giving her lactose-free formula for 3 days to see if it makes a difference. She is combi fed and still has breastmilk. The weird thing ...during the 10 days she had 2 good days in the beginning but then it came back. It does not seem to be getting better or worse. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Please share your stories.

Most babies who react to dairy react to the proteins rather then the lactose ( breast milk contains lactose). If you want to test if dairy is the problem you need to get a hydrolsed formula which you need a prescription for in the UK.
The proteins can also transfer through you into your breastmilk so you would also need to eliminate dairy from your diet.
My baby had similar relatively mild symptoms ( compared to alot of stories I've read on facebook) but the improvement in him once dairy was cut out was amazing.
It can take up to 6 weeks to see an improvement just so your aware. If you do see an improvement after the 6 weeks you would then challenge with a yogurt to see if symptoms return.
There are some amazing cows milk protein allergy ( cmpa) groups on Facebook. One for weaning and one for breastfeeding.
Hope baba feels better soon.
