Can my 10 months old sleep with a teddy?

Basically just that. I've only ever kept her cot empty as that's what's advised and it always felt right.

But, I really want her to get used to having a little comforter or teddy that she loves. I had it growing up and my mum said I loved it and couldn't sleep without it. I want that for my little girl too as it's cute and it comforts them. I'm just too scared to put it in with her at bed time. We have a baby monitor so between 7 and 10pm before we go to bed I can check on her with it but it's just when we go to bed. Am I overthinking this? Is it ok for her to sleep with it at this age or not? I obviously won't do it if it is but just wanted to see what others do and what age they gave their LO's comforters at bed timeSmile TIA.

Yes. An age appropriate toy. The top tip is to buy an identical spare, so you can rotate/wash/replace if lost.

No. I wouldn't do it. Mine are much older so the advice may have changed but doubt it.

Ideally cot should be empty until at least 1yr old

Give it to her for her naps and 7-10pm when you have the baby monitor on and can keep checking her, but take it out when you go to sleep yourself. She’ll still grow to love it as she falls asleep with it.

My toddler sleeps with a muslin comforter and has done since she was about 5 months, but I'm still too nervous about a soft toy. I think this is probably irrational on my part. I'm also really nervous about introducing a pillow because she sleeps on her front - again, totally irrational. I just wouldn't sleep for worrying.

Good idea about the naps and monitor time only, though. I might try that idea myself!

Another vote for a Muslim comforter.

We have these: willaandthebear.com/collections/muslins-comforters/products/tabbed-muslin-comforter

They are SO lovely

I've happily let my son have a small comforter since 6 months. I don't think I'd be happy with a teddy though.

As PP mentioned, he secretly has two Wink

It should be ok in another few months but at least until she’s a year I would keep the cot empty as per advice.

FelicityBob · 02/01/2021 20:09

If it worries you than don’t do it.
FWIW my kids aren’t interested in the teddies I tried to force upon them as babies, they have chosen their own ones that they love

We have a muslin comforter which works really well, and as it's gauze fabric there's not the worry about whether DC can breathe through it!
