Silent reflux... what did it improve and then go?

Baby is 4 months and his silent reflux is absolutely horrendous!!!! His on max meds and allergy formula and thickener but nothing helps. Please can someone tell me when it peaked? When it started to improve and when it went. I feel like I'm slowly dying

You have my every sympathy.

Just wondering which formula LO is on and if you've been referred to the Allergy Clinic?

Has Tongue Tie been ruled out as well?

His on alfamino so an amino acid one. We have had a specialist look at it and she said he does have a slight one but she doesn't think it's impacting on his feeding x

For DD1 when she 11 months and she was diagnosed CMPA and went dairy free. DD2 some where between 6 - 8 weeks when I stopped eating soya and dairy (breast feeding).

I've had a baby with tongue tie. I would really, really recommend getting it divided. If baby is screaming from the pain of taking in too much air when they are feeding, then it is impacting your lives.

Ours wasn't spotted until much later. We had exactly what you have now, trouble with weaning, no sleep for a very long time and eventually speech therapy.

There's a list of Tongue Tie Practitioners here or Milk Matters do a virtual service.

Which meds is he on?

@GenevaMaybe

Which meds is he on?
He tried omeprazole but it was awful for him, was on that 6 weeks. Now his on lansoprazole, been on it 2 weeks and so far has done nothing. Also gaviscon but tbh that just constipates him

We had silent reflux and max dose of omeprazole at that age, also CMPA and egg allergy. To be honest none of it did much, cutting out allergens was the biggest leap, it all improved slightly but the big shift came for us at 9 months a few weeks after she was able to crawl I think - can't remember exactly (was v v sleep deprived)but basically something happened that strengthened stomach muscles and it was like flicking on a tap. All digestive discomfort gone.

So the only advise I would have is do as much tummy time as you can tolerate, and do whatever you can to cope and ride it out. She wasn't a crier, for reasons I don't understand but she really barely slept at all for those 9 months and it was hell. All I can say is do whatever works and take whatever breaks you can to get through the days, it ebbed and flowed for us, but when it finally happened it really was magic.

If the meds aren’t working then ask for a review, it might not be the right dosage or you may need to try something else. My baby took nexium which is the most commonly prescribed over here (Switzerland) and it really worked wonders

GenevaMaybe · 01/01/2021 11:48

Also which allergy formula is he taking?

Gooseysgirl · 02/01/2021 10:52

I'm not sure if GPs prescribe ranitidine anymore for babies with silent reflux but it was the only thing that worked for my DS. We stopped using it when he was about 14 months old.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 02/01/2021 11:05

Still think it's the tongue tie.
