I've just read Aida's thread in teenagers and I have a similar problem. My wonderful dd is nearly 6 but the biggest in her class. She's tall, but also fairly chunky. I wouldn't say fat - maybe some people would - but she's got a bit of a tum, like many little girls have. (Bit like her mum, but that's another story... )
Anyway, we've just had a soul-destroying day trying to buy some trousers or jeans for her - after several hours we've ended up with a garish raspberry coloured velour tracksuit and two pairs of leggings. But as we live in the country and she's always climbing trees and mucking about in mud, she really wants/needs jeans so she can just kick about and they won't rip.
Next jeans were inches apart at the zip, ditto M&S. I'm loathe to pay Boden prices and I don't live near GAP. Does anyone have any ideas? Buying bigger ages doesn't work - they're never any bigger round the tum, they're just far too long in the leg. I'm getting a bit desperate and I REALLY don't want her to start thinking she's fat now - she's already shut herself in the bathroom and shaved her legs once with my razor because she thinks they're too hairy!!
I'm alone - so please forgive the rant - I haven't got a dh around to moan at...
p.s. my first post on Mumsnet!
